What is the process of ordering a Made to measure gown?
We offer a design service on several different levels to suit all of our clients. You have the option of working with the designer to have something created especially for you or simply choose from the designs of our boutique collection. We start with crafting a calico toile from your measurements in the basic silhouette you desire; working through necklines, design features and fabrics choices over approximately 3-5 fitting before you pick up your dress. We work in such stages to ensure the confidence of the design and to allow our valued clients to be a part of our creative process.
How much time do you require to have my gown crafted?
We work with a lead-time of 6-12 months. This ensures we have sufficient time to create your gown and schedule your fittings around the busy lives we lead. If your wedding date is closer than this lead time please contact us directly. We strive to help all of our brides, and can create a selection of gowns in a shorter time frame over our quieter periods.
I am so unsure of what I would like for my wedding gown, what do you suggest?
A lot of my clients come in so unsure of what they desire for their special day. We suggest coming in and trying on as many different styles as possible, even types you wouldn’t think you would wear. This will give you a feel of what you love (and don’t love) and what styles suit your body shape. Once we determined a basic silhouette, we then build upon the necklines and the shape of the skirt. Then we work our way up to design lines, fabrics and embellishments. This way we can step by step create confidence in a design that we have worked together to craft.
How much does a Made-to-Measure gown cost?
Our prices start from $2,800 for a made to measure gown. Prices can go up to $7,000 depending on design style and materials. Our average price range is $3,600-$4,500.
When do you take appointments?
We offer appointments Saturday's from 8am – 2pm and Tuesday's and Thursday's from 8am – 7pm (last appointment 7pm).
Where are you located?
We are located in the gorgeous Eastern Suburbs town of Croydon Hills. We are very accessible to all of Melbourne being approximately 10 minutes from the Eastern Freeway and 5 minutes from Eastlink.
Can I buy off the rack?
No, our gowns are made to measure only. This ensures an absolute perfect fit on your special day.
Am I able to change weight after I order my gown?
Yes, your weight may change up to the point where the dress must be completed, approximately 2-4 weeks before your wedding. A majority of brides fluctuate body weight and/or measurements leading up to their wedding and we are more than happy to cater to this. We work in stages to create your gown to ensure you have a perfect fit at each appointment. If weight loss occurs after the final fitting, additional charges may apply.
What if I fall pregnant after I have ordered my gown?
If you are planning to fall pregnant or find out you are pregnant after you have ordered your gown please let us know right away. We are able to cater to a brides changing figure during this time. However if the gown is near its final stages additional charges may apply to perform necessary alterations.
Do I need to bring anything to my initial appointment or fittings?
Please bring with you any ideas/fabric samples you may have in mind to your initial appointment. We also suggest wearing appropriate underwear when trying on our samples to ensure you get the most out of your appointment. (Red polka dots can be distracting!)
Once you have confirmed your Kara Jade Designs order, we suggest you acquire your underwear and shoes as soon as possible. These should be brought to each fitting to ensure your shape and posture remains the same throughout the process.
Do you sell headpieces and veils to complete the look of my dress?
Yes! We custom handcraft headpieces and veils of many different fabrics, sizes and lengths to co-inside with your gown. We also make these to order for our customers who may have found their gown elsewhere.
